The Three ways you can use Essential oils!
This is the easiest way to use your dōTERRA essential oils. Here are a few ways to use your oils aromatically:
There are so many benefits to using your oils topically. Due to the molecular composition of essential oils, they are easily absorbed by the skin and can enter the bloodstream in less than a minute, and are in your entire system within 20 minutes (another good reason to chose wisely when picking an EO company). It is recommended to use a carrier oil (like fractionated/liquid coconut oil) to help spread the oil further, drive the oils deeper and have less evaporate. Using a carrier oil also helps with any skin sensitivity, which is especially important when applying oils to little ones or sensitive skin, it also prolong the life of your oils (honestly, a little goes a long way!)
Roller bottles are the BEST…they are a great way to have your oils all set up and ready to go. Simply pick the oils you need and add a carrier oil, please ask for clarification on dilution amounts! I like to say about for an adult: about 30 drops total in a 10ml roller and go from there.. (***See recipes section for my favourite roller bottle recipes!!***)
Some common places to apply your oils is on: the bottoms of the feet, your inner wrist or elbow, your neck, behind your ears, back of the neck or over your heart! For your little ones, start with the bottoms of the feet. Just make sure they aren’t going to touch the oils then rub their eyes, etc…placing socks on after application can help- or stick to the back of neck or spine! After applying oils to their feet, make sure to put socks on them so they don’t grab their feet and rub their eyes.
I like to encourage people to use your intuition when using the oils…have a headache, rub it on your forehead, temples and back of the neck, have a tummy ache, rub the oils on your tummy…a sore knee, rub the oils on your knee!! You cant really go wrong…just avoid putting oils in your eyes, up your nose or directly in your ears ☺
if you ever get an oil somewhere that is uncomfortable, use a carrier oil to dilute it out. Pour the carrier oil on, wipe it off and continue as needed. Do not use water and soap as water actually will drive the oil deeper (you’ll learn quickly if you forget!)
Yes, that’s right….I said “Internal” as in ingesting or eating the oils, Mmmmm! This is a BIG reason why I use and trust dōTERRA. When I talk about ingestion I’m ONLY TALKING ABOUT dōTERRA oils! We are a very different company, go to “Why dōTERRA” to learn more! Essential oils can be used internally to support SO many things…from a daily dietary supplement to supporting our body to detox and cleanse, to helping with an upset tummy or helping to fight a common cold! It’s a great way to get the benefits of the oils, and its something I’ve been doing for almost 3 years now and I’m so very grateful for this added way to use them!
I personally love to put one or two drops of Lemon, lime, grapefruit or wild orange essential oil in my water or smoothies, daily for the gentle detox benefits. Tip: when drinking your oils, please make sure that you are using a glass, ceramic or stainless steel water bottle. Do not use plastic water bottles with essential oils. You can also purchase little pill pockets called veggie caps from dōTERRA and take your oils internally like a pill. This method is necessary when taking warmer oils, like Oregano (no thank you this oil is not touching my mouth!). The oils are fantastic to use in cooking, sauces or baking, etc…such an amazing and easy way to add flavour!
Lastly, do what you are comfortable with.

These beautiful oils are tiny but mighty, and can beautifully support our bodies when used safely! Please reach out to me or your oil mentor for help using the oils safely and diluting safely. All application methods are safe when used appropriately, including aromatic, topical, and internal methods. One or multiple application methods can be used for a wide range of emotional and physical wellness applications. They can be used a single oil at a time or in complex blends. “Start low and go slow” is great to remember when using the oils regarding dilution and frequency of use.
